How is film roll length calculated from bag dimensions?

Film flat width = 2 × bag width + gusset depth + side seal allowance. Roll length = bags per roll × (bag length + seal allowance). The calculator does these calculations automatically from your bag dimensions and shows runtime per roll.

What's the difference between film thickness in microns and gauge?

1 micron (μm) = 4 gauge. So 50 μm film = 200 gauge. Most B2B specifications use microns globally; gauge is mostly US. The calculator uses microns as the primary unit.

How do I know how many bags one roll will produce?

The calculator divides roll length by (bag length + seal allowance) to give bags per roll. For a standard 300m roll at 150mm bag length + 10mm seal, you get approximately 1,875 bags per roll.

What film density should I use?

Accepted Answer

Default is 0.93 g/cm³ (LDPE). For PET/PE laminate use 1.35, for OPP/CPP use 0.91, for nylon/PE use 1.05, for EVOH barrier film use 1.20. The calculator auto-fills based on selected film structure but you can override with your supplier's spec.

How should I plan film inventory?

Rule of thumb: keep 2 weeks of film on hand for domestic supply, 6-8 weeks for international shipping. Track film consumption per shift and reorder when 1 week of stock remains. The calculator gives monthly film kg which converts directly to rolls.

Can this calculator handle printed film?

Accepted Answer

Yes — printed film uses the same calculation. The only difference is the eye-mark sensor on the bagger detects printed registration marks instead of plain film. Add 1-2% scrap allowance for printed film registration setup.
